Despite being very confident all through the re-building process, it’s still hard to believe that this evening Cafe Paradiso will be a restaurant again, rather than a building site.
Whoever had the bright idea of throwing a small drinks party a day before the re-opening as a way to force the pace in the last few days had no idea of just how forced the pace was going to get or how stressful the last few hours could be. Oh, yeah, that was me. Still, it worked, even if we had to bundle the painter out the door as the first guests were walking up the street.

We have a hefty snag list for Monday, but tonight it’s all about dinner, something we haven’t done for over a month now. But the chefs got their kitchen back yesterday and they’ve been in there since, prepping their way back into the feel of it. Every single thing in the kitchen is new except our beloved oven, but the place looks and feels the same, so hopefully there won’t be too many teething problems.
The dining room looks lovely, definitely my favourite version of Paradiso, and not just because it’s green. And it is green, my camera isn’t properly picking up that lovely shade of studio green on the walls. The room still has that dark, intimate feel that came with the previous makeover, but this time it’s also warmer and cosier. And greener!
Come on in and have a look for yourself. We’re doing lunch and dinner until the 23rd, then closing for Christmas and reverting to our usual hours on the 29th – dinner Tuesday to Saturday from 5.30, and lunch Friday and Saturday 12noon to 3pm.
Visit to Cork last week was great – despite cold! New design is very cool. It was great to see everyone again – all seem to have survived November very well. The food was fantastic, as usual!!
